Our experienced instructors provide personalized instruction, practical training, and constructive feedback to help students develop the skills and confidence needed to successfully pass the test and become safe, responsible drivers.

In Virginia, students must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to apply for a learner’s permit and take the DMV knowledge test. The test consists of two parts:
Students must successfully pass both sections and meet all DMV application requirements to receive their learner’s permit
Beginning January 1, 2027, Virginia law requires all first-time drivers under age 21 to successfully complete a state-approved driver education program, including Behind-the-Wheel training.
Students age 21 and older have the option of completing a Behind-the-Wheel program or meeting DMV requirements to take the road skills test directly at the DMV.
Regardless of age, we strongly recommend professional Behind-the-Wheel instruction for drivers who have limited driving experience or have not completed at least 45 hours of supervised practice. Our program helps students build confidence, develop safe driving habits, and prepare for a lifetime of responsible driving.
Virginia law requires drivers under age 18 to complete at least 45 hours of supervised driving practice, including 15 hours after sunset, before obtaining their driver's license. A parent or guardian must certify that these hours have been completed.
At GreenLine Driving Academy, we also encourage students to gain experience driving in a variety of conditions, including rain, snow, heavy traffic, and on different types of roads. When conditions are safe and supervision is appropriate, additional practice in challenging situations helps students build confidence, develop good judgment, and become safer, more prepared drivers.
In Virginia, students can obtain their driver's license as early as 16 years and 3 months old, provided they have met all state requirements.
To qualify, students under age 18 must:
Once all requirements are satisfied and the student has reached the minimum age, they are eligible to receive their driver's license.
At GreenLine Driving Academy, we help students develop the skills, confidence, and safe driving habits needed to successfully complete their Behind-the-Wheel training and take the next step toward becoming licensed drivers.
In Virginia, students who fail the DMV learner's permit knowledge test three times must complete additional driver education before they are eligible to take the test a fourth time.
Students who are 18 or older, or those under 18 who have already completed the classroom portion of driver's education, may satisfy this requirement by completing a DMV-approved 8-hour Driver's Manual/Re-Examination Course, available online or in person.
Students under 18 who have not yet completed classroom driver education must first complete the required 36-session classroom course.
Once the appropriate course is successfully completed and proof of completion is provided to the DMV, students may retake the knowledge test.
